What a Day!

So we woke up-late! Kathryn had a dentist appointment for a (baby) root canal at 8am this morning, 25 minutes away from us. We were supposed to be up at 6:20am to get Clara and Marian to school and then have plenty of time to get to Conyers for the appointment. Not how it happened.

Instead, we woke up at 7:10am, and had a small panic attack, while Mommy (me) went into total frantic mode. I got everyone up and ready to go and we were in the car by 7:35. But we still had to wait for Johnnie who was inside running around like mad looking for Aiden's lost TMNT shoe and the diaper bag. He found the shoe, but the diaper bag is still a mystery 7 hours later. LOL

So we finally pulled out of the driveway at 7:45 and got to the school and dropped off the girls. They of course were tardy, so I had to wait in line behind all of the other slacker parents to sign them in and give them their tardy slips so they could go to class. *ugh*

By this time, I know we are going to be late to Kat's appointment. There's just no saving time now. But I still tried my best to not be "too late", hoping like crazy and hoping all the way that we wouldn't be rescheduled. Ha! This is not uncommon for us.

We got there about 13 minutes late and I ran inside carrying Kathryn. Something that I found out quickly isn't a great idea for my old, out of shape body. :P

They did not reschedule us, but took us back immediately. Kathryn, our 5 year old, is spunky and spazzy. She is our loving, gentle, fireball! LOL She has a huge, loving heart but if she hears "No" or she is made to do something she isn't ok with, or if she is scared at all of something, she flips her lid completely. She is energetic and can not stay still for 2 seconds. She's incredibly intelligent, and that gets her into trouble a lot.

Today, she fought me, the nurse and the dentist in typical Kathryn form. She was screaming, crying, thrashing around, and just doing everything she could to try to get out of having anything done to her teeth. She was scared. So she fought.

After awhile, she let them start on her tooth. She still tried to push tools away every now and then, but for the most part, she stayed still and watched The Little Mermaid as she let them do their job. She is 5 years old and has now had her first (baby) root canal.
She did really good. I was proud of her. And there has been minimal pain so far. She's just a bit sore.

When we left the dentist office, we went to see Granny, Johnnie's Grandmother that raised him. She is in a Nursing home now. She's 80 years old and though her mind is lost, she is still very strong.
She remembers Johnnie as a little boy, so every time she sees him and realizes who she's looking at, it shocks her and makes her giggle a nervous giggle. And she says something about him being a little boy, how is he a grown man?
We all love that woman beyond words and miss her so very much. (She has Alzheimer's and dementia.) :(
We plan on going back out to see her again very soon. She said that she missed us and that she thought she lost us. The nurses told us she keeps trying to walk to break out of there. It breaks my heart. I wish we could care for her full time, but with 4 kids and all that we have going on, not to mention we don't have a place for her, it's just impossible.

So we left there and came home. By this time in the day, Aiden and Johnnie were ready for a nap, and I had some really important phone calls to handle. 2.5 hours worth of phone calls! *ugh* I really don't like the phone.

Now we are waiting for the older girls to get home. Mary went to school without her wheelchair again today. We should find out in about 20 minutes how well she did. *Fingers crossed* for a pain free or low pain day. (I'll update later)
